This blog is the first in a series all about fun things to do for families in Richmond, VA. Our first adventure was a quick trip out to Chesterfield County to visit R. Garland Dodd Park, also known as Point of Rocks.
We headed to the park and parked near the playground. There are clearly marked signs to get you to that parking lot and there is a restroom nearby which is great for other parents who children refuse to listen when you tell them to go to the bathroom before you leave the house.

Just to the right of the park, there is a trail called the “Blue Blaze Trail” on maps but marked as the “Insect Trail” on signs near the park. This was my kids’ favorite part! The trail has cute butterflies, bugs, and dragonflies painted on the trail that leads you about a quarter mile into the woods. At the end of the trail is an adorable park with many insect themed play structures. This park is mostly in the shade too which is great for the summer!

There are also plenty of additional trails that take you on various trails. The boardwalk section over the water was beautiful too and the kids enjoyed a change of scenery with a little “adventure.” I made a note to come back and go for a run around the park, but I would definitely do that without the kids. 😉

Directions
If you would like to visit, the address of the park is 201 Enon Church Rd, Chester, VA 23836. The easiest place to park is at the large playgrounds next to the baseball fields. If you follow the signs for the playground, you will find it. Head here for more park info and let me know if you have any questions!
